What a run-a-way success!

Cameron and Katie set-up first Fairways 5K Race

Fairways supports Middle School students Cameron Vahanian and Katie Roberts and Habitat for Humanity Saturday May 12

Maple Avenue Seventh Graders Cameron Vahanian and Katie Roberts wanted to support Habitat for Humanity. And they came up with an idea to involve their neighbors in the Fairways of Wilton.
Run a 5K Race. Get sponsors for the Race. Print tie-dye T-Shirts for entrants in the Race. Devise a course that would stay in the Fairways and avoid the heavily traveled Northern Pines and other arterial roads...mark out the course with arrows and signs.
The day of the Race erect a Finish and Start banner (same banner - Finish on on side Start on other. That's why in the pictures you see runners ending under the Start side of banner.)
Sign up the entrants. Get a plentiful supply of drinks and food. Have Corinne Vahanian record the time of each runner at the finish and post the times on the time board.

For children under ten Cameron and Katie also had a special one-mile run or walk held after the 5K event. And Cameron and Katie made sure eachchild got their special tie-dye T-Shirt.
With almost 50 runners in the 5K Race Ken Swartz burned up the course with a time of 18minutes 47 seconds. Great time, Ken.
Cameron and Katie are looking forward to next year when they will have the Second Fairways 5K Race. Very nice job, Cameron and Katie.
