HIGH FIVES, SMILES SPORTSMANSHIP
MAYDAY SOCCER CLASSIC FIFTH ANNUAL AT GAVIN PARK MAY 4 & 5

The youth soccer season in the Northeast now begins with the MayDay Soccer Classic at Gavin Park in Wilton. With 104 teams from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont thousands of participants, parents and spectators filled Gavin Park over the first weekend in May 2002.
The Classic featured competition between the over ten boys and girls teams Saturday and the under ten boy, girls and mixed teams Sunday.
Fourteen Saratoga Youth Soccer teams competed.
Despite high winds Friday which hampered set-up for the Classic Saturday and Sunday were perfect weather days for the competition. Competition started at 7:30 am and continued until dusk.

As always every match illustrated sportsmanship, competition and fair play.
Lisa Mayo, coordinator for the Classic for Saratoga Youth Soccer comments that high five's and good game at the end of each match emphasize Youth Soccer commitment to fair play and sportsmanship. "Kids compete and they play cleanly and they respect their opponents."
The Wilton Recreation Department under Melody Thornton and Jim Robinson had the fields in great shape - all ten of them.
The Sixth Annual Mayday Soccer Classic will again be held in 2003 on the first weekend in May at Gavin Park. And then youth soccer in the Northeast can begin.
