You’d think they were running on sneakers

Aaron Robertson of Rouses Point did the 8k Snowshoe Race at Camp Saratoga in 30.50 minutes. And if you don't think that was flying, try running the course this spring when the snow has gone in sneakers or track shoes and beat that time.

Very few runners will match that time.

Great conditions - fresh snow and a sparkling sunny day - brought out a hundred snowshoers to test the course at Camp Saratoga Saturday February 16.

93 of the snowshoers finished the race. Event coordinator, Laura Clark with a time of 58.27 was only 15 minutes behind Carissa Stepsen, top woman finisher and ahead of 22 other snowshoers.

Nice going Laura. Husband, Jeff who started the Race and led the finish line crew was all applause.

This is the fifth year the event has been held at Camp Saratoga and it is one of the qualifying events for national snowshoe competition.

Laura says that volunteer support has been essential for the continuing success of the 8k and she would like to thank the Wilton Preserve for its support. She would especially thank Preserve volunteers Noni Rifenbary, Kevin Joyce and Pieter Litchfield who groomed the trails that morning.

Again managing traffic as they had for the moonlight ski in January was the Wilton Rotary members: David Spingarn, Ben Spingarn, Warren Weil, Tyler Weil, Debra Obenhoff and Bob Rice.

The full crew was Saratoga Stryders who sponsored the 8k included: Mike Meslar, Jack Huckel, the 4 Peggy's - Peggy Huckel, McKeown, Mangano and Keefe - Andy Keefe, Dawn Pallor, Cathy and Bill Taylor, Jeffrey Allen, John Couch, Melissa Champagne, Aurora Lamparetta, Zach and Greg Schwartz,Paul Woschanko,Steve Mastaitis, Jim Carlson, Wayne Litke, Christine McKnight, Charles Petraske, Nancy Burke, Alice and Don Ziegler.

If anyone has not been cited, Laura apologizes..
