Next year Mighty Mites!
Termites buz-z-z-ing on ice!

Different kind of practice for Wilton family practioner Sunday mornings at 7am on Weibel Avenue
Wilton resident, Doctor Ken Schwartz, expects to see patients at his practiceat 35 Myrtle Street in Saratoga Springs. And every Sunday morning from mid-October through March he expects to see an eager group of thirty to thirty-five at his other practice.
That practice takes place at the ice skating rings of Saratoga on Weibel Avenue and the 30 to 35 participants are the Termites.
Termites is the name for 5 to 6 year-olds participating in the youth hockey program of Saratoga Youth Hockey - both boys and girls. At this age level the emphasis is on developing basic skills with fun skirmishes at the end of the practice. (And the whole ring is used in the skirmish - that is some distance for 5 and 6 year-olds to skate.)

Schwartz who has sons, Larry and Zachary, in the program says that asa native of Massena (up north by the Saint Lawrence) he naturally grew up playing hockey and played club hockey in college at Colgate.
That is very good by the way. Colgate is a major college competitor in hockey and the club team competes with the varsities of SUNY Colleges and even with the varsity team of Syracuse.
Ken says that the Termite hockey program is introducing the kids not only to the fun of the sport but to the concept of teamwork and good sportsmanship. And Ken says those are lifetime skills that the kids are acquiring.
Joining Ken on the ice Sunday mornings are Joe Plewinski, Kathy Fitts, Rich Roberts and Patrick McFadden as coaches. Parents assist at the benches during the skirmishes at the end of practice.
Coordinator for the Termites and Mites (next stage up) programs is Kevin Finn who can be reached at 695-9658 for more information.
