KEN PETTEYS AT 97 LEADS DEDICATION OF WILTON FIRE HOUSE SATURDAY OCTOBER 5 |

Wilton's band new $2.2 million fire house on Ballard Road was formally dedicated for service to Wilton Saturday October 5. Appropriately, Ken Petteys had a starring role in the dedication. Just as Ken is at every function of the fire company and most other community events to provide support, wisdom and counsel, Ken shared memories of the beginning of the Company in 1948. In 1948 Ken said the firehouse was on dirt roads and he went to the road commissioner Ken Williams to see if blacktop could be put around the firehouse. Commissioner Williams said no and Ken had the perfect answer. "We have 50 men in the Company and they vote." The next day the crews were applying blacktop. |

Among the honored guests at the Dedication were former Assemblyman Bobby D'Andrea, Assemblyman Roy McDonald, Senator Hugh Farley and South Glens Falls School Superintendent James McCarthy and School Board President Jackie Bashant. McCarthy and Bashant were recognized by the Company for their part in deeding over land owned by the School District next to Ballard School to the Company for the new Station. Also recognized by the Company and made honorary members were Ed Kelley of Kelley's Deli and Michael Woodcock. Ed for food frequently furnished the Company; Michael for the painting he had done for the Company of Ground Zero. Danielle Pacelli and Marie Scerra were saluted by the Company for their alertness in rousing family members from a burning home July 27 preventing injury or loss of life. A Medi-Vac helicopter landed at 2:30 to demonstrate how the new new heli-port would operate to evacuate injured people. Children from the Ballard School performed and entertained after the Dedication ceremonies. More than 300 people attended the Dedication. Senator Hugh Farley told that this was amazing compared with what a contrast with Clifton Park and the turnout there. That was about fifty people at a similar ceremony. Wilton can be proud of its new Fire Station. With five bays for equipment and apparatus, the 19,800 square foot building has meeting and conference rooms, a banquet hall, lounge and will serve Wilton for the foreseeable future. The Company invites any interested individual who would like to serve our Wilton community to call 584-3338.
